Also known as a NST. It is a simple, non-invasive test performed in pregnancies over 28 weeks gestation to monitor the baby's heart rate and evaluate fetal well-being. It lets us know the blood flow from the placenta to the baby is providing enough oxygen for good health. It may be indicated for a variety of conditions. Such as decreased fetal movements; high blood pressure, diabetes, or because you are past your due date.
The purpose of prenatal testing is to screen and diagnose any existing problems that may affect the mother's or baby's health. This may involve determining the risk of the fetus having a chromosomal or genetic disorder.
We have a phlebotomist on site that will draw a small sample of blood to send to Mercy Medical Laboratories. We will send the sample to other labs upon request.
